We are often asked what type of accounting system they should use for their accounting system. While there are a lot of different systems on the market, we typically recommend QuickBooks. The reason for this is ease of use. It has been a mainstay in the industry, and it is typically the easier to use than some of the others on the market.
When you choose QuickBooks Online, you have several options to choose from. For a Sole Proprietor, there is a simple and free version available. A word of caution with the free Sole Prop version, it is extremely limited in. The reporting is restricted to what QuickBooks has provided no matter the industry. Should you choose this version and import you records and start categorizing and realize that you do not have what you need from a reporting sense, you will have to start over again in the paid for version.
QuickBooks online enables you, no matter the version, to invite your Accountant to collaborate. Which means, my clients can ask for my assistance without the cumbersome backup of your file, trying to email it to me and then me trying to upload, correct and then send it back to the client. QB online allows me to simply log in, fix and let my client know the issue has been corrected.
The best part of QuickBooks desktop is the reporting. Above all, if reporting means everything to you, then the desktop version is by far the best option for you. At FBS Accounting, the clients our company works on directly on the desktop version. Why do we do this? Simply put the reporting. Because we use the desktop version we have the ability to customize our reporting and provide high level insight into their numbers.
There are a lot of different types of systems out there and every company has unique needs. That is why when asked, we start with what their needs are first, before we recommend.
